The best of Euroluce 2023 (part II)

Continuing with Archello’s pick of the best luminaires from Euroluce 2023, the lamps listed here capture the diversity of collections presented by lighting brands. Each lamp is made with technological know-how and artisanal flair, with designs that range from colorful to experimental, and minimal to grand.

 

1. Africa by Vibia

Caption

At Spanish brand Vibia, light is the foundation of space design, with the ability to impact appearance and ambience. Vibia's holistic approach to lighting unites the latest in technologically progressive and aesthetically refined designs. The new Africa collection by Francisco Gomez Paz expresses serene beauty and poise. A unique portable lamp, the anthropological form invites the user to grasp hold of the object. In Africa, there is both a cultural significance and an expression of humanity. Other new lighting designs from Vibia include Break Plus by Xuclà, a lamp that converts any wall into a three-dimensional mural, and Knit by Meike Harde, with a seamless transition between the knitted fabric and diffuser.

 

2. Liiu by Luceplan

For Italian brand Luceplan, a focus on lighting that is technologically evolved and flexible in use is core to the company’s ethos. Imbued with a spirit of creativity, Luceplan’s new Liiu system of suspension lamps, designed by Vantot, stems from the desire to craft high-performance lighting with an ethereal and poetic quality. Other new lighting designs from Luceplan include J-Us by Alessandro Zambelli, an innovatory reinterpretation of the traditional chandelier, and Across by Pio & Tito Toso, a distinctive and graphic luminaire.

 

3. Veil by Artemide

Caption

Artemide is one of Italy’s lighting giants. With a slew of contemporary design icons under its belt, the company’s latest collection is the result of technological patented research and collaborations with pioneering designers and architects. Designed by BIG, each lamp in the new Veil collection has an essential simplicity that is filled with technological innovation. From the flowing, precise curve of the arm to the cylindrical, compact geometry of the base, Veil’s minimal profile seamlessly integrates with its surroundings. Other new lighting designs from Artemide include Dreispitz, a series of lights that engage with concepts found in Euclidean geometry, and Turn Around, a linear lighting system that accentuates the freedom and flexibility to combine different geometries.

 

4. Salina by Axolight

Caption

Italian lighting company Axolight produces high-end, handmade decorative lamps with a focus on quality, functionality, and elegance. The new Salina light by Francesca de Giorgi is an indoor-outdoor light made using fabric. With a canopy-like design, Salina enjoys a warm sense of minimalism. Other new lighting designs from Axolight include Paralela by Nahtrang Studio, with a design that gives shape to light itself, and Sunday, a ceiling fixture simply inspired by a sunny Sunday.

 

5. L660 by MP Lighting 

Caption

Canadian brand MP Lighting produces sophisticated luminaires that draw inspiration from its surroundings. The company’s architectural lighting designs incorporate European-inspired aesthetics. The new L660 is an impressive pendant lamp that consists of a series of light bulb shapes. Eye-catching compositions of L660 are made possible by a number of canopy options and customizable lengths.

 

6. Cono di Luce by Lodes

Caption

Lodes is an Italian brand whose passion for glass originated in founder Angelo Tosetto. The new Cono di Luce is the brand’s first collaboration with Ron Arad, the renowned British-Israeli industrial designer, artist, and architectural designer. Cono di Luce is a marriage between Lodes’ technological know-how and Arad’s artistic prowess. Made using borosilicate glass, the lamp has a truncated cone shape with the light source placed on top, hence Cono di Luce or Cone of Light.

 

7. Pure BioAir by OLEV

Caption

The first company to offer a collection of exclusively led decorative lamps, Italian brand OLEV views every light as a piece of art. More than a simple lighting fixture, the company aims to add value to certain lamps, for example, a lamp that helps to absorb noise or purify the air. The new Pure BioAir is a led suspension lamp whose downward beam of light will sanitize the air around it. The lamp “sucks in” unhealthy air, filtering it through the led. Other new lighting designs from OLEV include the sensuous and sleek Trisel by Blank Design Studio and the ‘Silence Leaf’ collection, a lamp with a lush upside-down garden.

 

8. Aria Infinita by Slamp

Italian brand Slamp devotes itself to the creation of decorative lighting designs that blend aesthetics and ethics. Celebrating its 10th anniversary working with Zaha Hadid Design, Slamp launches the serpentine-like Aria Infinita. Luminous and dynamic, Aria Infinita is an architectural suspension lamp whose layers wind harmoniously with sinuous grace. Other new lighting designs from Slamp include Quantica by Adriano Rachele, a sculptural lamp that captures a sense of entanglement, and Le Grand Ceremony by Bruno Rainaldi, a voluminous luminaire that drapes like a fine necklace.

 

9. Barceloneta by Luxcambra

Caption

Luxcambra is a family-owned Spanish lighting company whose primary aim is to craft lamps that work to enhance their surroundings, providing unique atmospheres. The new Barceloneta pendant by Jordi Llopis pays tribute to the wooden blinds that are rolled up on balconies throughout the Catalonian capital. Moreover, the design captures the light filtered by these blinds when unfurled. Another new lighting design from Luxcambra is the CIM collection by Estudi Manel Molina, comprising a minimal conical ceiling and wall light.

 

10. Pivot by SIMES

Caption

Italian company SIMES designs outdoor lighting solutions that aim to make all areas of an outdoor space usable, imbuing the space with emotion. The new Pivot spotlight is a fully adjustable slender, cylindrical projector that rotates around its pivot. Other new lighting designs from SIMES include Feeling, a wall light designed to create a cosy ambience, and the compact and geometric Apply wall and ceiling lamp.

 

11. Tapis Soft by Wever & Ducré

Caption

“From Belgium with love” is the motto that encapsulates Wever & Ducré. The brand’s state-of-the-art leds are designed to feel equally at home in a cosy attic apartment or in the hippest city nightclub. The new Tapis Soft wall lamp, with its tapestry of soothing concentric circles, blends irritating ambient noise into the background. Other new lighting designs from Wever & Ducré include Solli Cocoon, a plug-in system that transforms two felt elements into a three-dimensional light, and the Trace Slim, a slender lamp that emits light both upwards and downwards.

 

12. Prisma by Brokis

Caption

Czech lighting brand Brokis was founded to enrich and showcase the craftsmanship of Bohemian glass artisans. The new Prisma collection by Lucie Koldova combines a handblown glass sphere with a decagonal metal prism. Other new lighting designs from Brokis include the Overlay collection whose shapes recall an amalgamation of the materials placed on creative mood boards, and Trottola with a form reminiscent of a spinning top.

 

13. Kuulto Small 9101 by Secto Design

Caption

Secto Design is a Finnish company that handcrafts its contemporary luminaires using high quality certified local birch. The new Kuulto Small 9101 ceiling lamp by Seppo Koho expresses a “purity of line” according to the designer. The form-pressed birch wood slats add eye-catching character to the lamp.

 

14. Puff by Tom Dixon

Caption

British designer Tom Dixon’s new Puff pendant is inspired by inflatable geometry. Made up of 30 etched and perforated metal panels that disperse a multitude of internal reflections, Puff’s interior is like a shimmering inverted disco ball. Portable, another new lighting design from Tom Dixon, is evocative of molten glass.

 

15. Stone by Il Fanale

Caption

Presided over by family, Il Fanale is a brand that believes in the craftsmanship and beauty of made in Italy design. The natural and warm Stone collection embodies the Mediterranean lifestyle. Another design is Drop, a small lamp inspired by lights found at village festivals.

 

16. Plissée Lamp by ClassiCon

Caption

German brand ClassiCon derives its name from a portmanteau of classic contemporary design. The Plissée Lamp by Sebastian Herkner is fashioned from mouth-blown opal glass. The pendant’s weightless appearance is pleasantly serene.

 

17. The Dandelion by Serip

Caption

The Dandelion, a new wall lamp and pendant from Portuguese brand Serip, pays homage to the humble weed — just like the dandelion itself, Serip’s concept embraces the act of spreading out and letting go. Another new lighting design from Serip is The Origem, a lamp that symbolizes the resurgence of nature following a catastrophe.

 

18. Skylines by Lumen Center Italia

Caption

The new Skylines family of lights by Ahlux for Italian brand Lumen Center Italia, appear like slender threads in the sky weaving their delicate geometries. Other new lighting designs from Lumen Center Italia include the planetary Orbit and Kiron, a floor lamp inspired by the learned centaur Chiron from Greek mythology.

 

19. Zen by Pujol Iluminacion

Caption

Zen, a new modular pendant by Hugo Tejada for Spanish brand Pujol Iluminacion, can be arranged in square, rectangular, or round configurations. Another new lighting design from Pujol Iluminacion is the zigzagging Zig.

 

20. Shuttle by Prandina

Caption

The Shuttle table is a new portable rocket-like luminaire by Marco Alessi for Italian brand Prandina. Shuttle is also available as a pendant. Another new lighting design from Prandina is the effortlessly adaptable Flyer wall lamp.


21. Solaris by Sigma Lighting

Caption

Solaris from Polish lighting manufacturer Sigma Lighting is a curvaceous shade made using mineral composite.

 

22. Optical series by Venicem

Caption

The Optical series by Italian brand Venicem consists of a burnished brass floor and wall lamp, with a design defined by simple primary forms.
