Onze 22 emerges as a tree-like edifice in São Paulo

French-Brazilian architectural studio Triptyque has completed work on Onze 22, a residential tower in São Paulo, Brazil. The building’s design comprises a series of overlapping and suspended slabs, interspersed with glass walls, and presents a contrast to the classic tower blocks found throughout São Paulo. Maíra Acayaba and Edu Castello Onze 22 sits amidst São Paulo’s vast urban fabric, its fluid interior–exterior plan framing 360-degree views of the city. Triptyque designed the building in a manner that “invites users to relate to the city [where] the view composes the spaces as if it were part of the decoration.” Gui Sibaud, a founding partner of Triptyque, says: “... もっと見る

Vineyard House

Stationed above 50 acres of planted vineyard and surrounded by breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, the compact T-shaped house leverages the natural slope of the hillside to place living spaces and connecting landscape at grade. Clayton Korte A simple layout and “right-sized” spaces feel just the same whether indoors or outdoors, assisted by positioning the bedroom wing of the house to shoulder the entertaining space from the prevailing western winds. Clayton Korte Private bedroom suites flank kitchen and living areas, with entertaining areas positioned at both ends. The west end of the kitchen opens up to a covered dining banquette that overlooks the vineyard “caracol” through the trees, and the... もっと見る

Canyon Residence at Wildcat Hollow

Sitting on nearly two acres, this West Lake Hills residence is nestled into the easternmost end of a wooded lot that slopes sharply towards a canyon at the foothills of the property. This topographic condition offers incredible opportunities to capture deep views of the hills beyond, but also poses challenges for the house’s siting, access, and constructability. Among these challenges, the main one was how to create a small footprint that was able to accommodate the program required by the owners with low impact and minimal site disturbance. Clayton Korte The result is a house that has a compact cut and fill area, achieved by condensing the main living zones in two “book-end” pods connected by a suspended bridge that... もっと見る

10 appealing homes built in cross-laminated timber

Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is made up of timber boards that are stacked in perpendicular layers and glued together under high pressure. By alternating the orientation of these wood layers, the stability and structural capacity of the material is increased. This provides a structural rigidity in two directions, similar to that of reinforced concrete. (Source: Timber Typologies.) The use of CLT in construction presents both a creative opportunity and an opportunity to significantly lessen the construction industry’s impact on climate change. CLT panels can be used externally and internally, across an entire structure. Wood is a wonderfully natural and pleasing material — buildings that are constructed from high-quality CLT, wi... もっと見る

Departamento T

The remodeling of Departamento T, a 415 m2 home in Mexico City, arose from the need for a radical change in the space to reflect a new chapter in the life of its user. The apartment occupies the entire 8th floor of a building in the urban heart of Mexico City, a refuge from the clamor of the streets. Since the client is the only family member living at the residence, the remodel revolved around her personality and particular needs, without the need to maintain much privacy between rooms. Caption Dramatic contrasts define the layout: black and white tones, polished marble and walnut, modern elements in classic settings. Conceptual coherence played an important role when selecting the materials, so black panels define the flow between pu... もっと見る

Detail: Reimagined vernacular of North Salem Farm

The North Salem Farm project by Brooklyn-based architectural studio Worrell Yeung, is an aesthetic reimagining of agrarian vernacular in northeastern New York. The studio, led by Max Worrell and Jejon Yeung, creates work that on the surface appears straightforward and unembellished, but is in fact rooted in rigorous design and analysis. North Salem Farm is one such case in point. In a conversation with Max Worrell and Jejon Yeung, they discuss a number of the design aspects that coalesce to create this contemporary dwelling. Photography by Naho Kubota   Three distinct buildings North Salem Farm comprises the design and renovation of three new and existing buildings, set within the agricultural landscape of Westchester Coun... もっと見る

TLW

With their design for a residential tower at Theodor-Loos-Weg in Gropiusstadt, Eike Becker_Architekten won first prize at a competition tendered by the Beamten-Wohnungs-Verein zu Berlin eG cooperative, marking the office's first cooperative project. The new building adopts the architectural language of the surrounding high-rise district erected in the 1970s and translates it into modern times. Gropius' original plans envisaged the integration of smaller buildings into the high-rise district, and EB_A's design has incorporated this idea by connecting a townhouse to the high-rise building through a shared plinth. The new tower will offer concierge services as well as designated areas for community events. A generous foyer will provide a commu... もっと見る

Fairleigh

Located just off a busy retail/commuter street in Toronto this house was conceived as a simple architectural proposition. A box with one simple spatial gesture that attempts to refine quite common social orientations within the home. Doublespace Photography Doublespace Photography Entry through the front of the house is modest and comprised of a small entry closet flanked by a reading lounge. This then transitions to a flexible dining area. At this moment a spatial tangent funnels ones experience and eye towards the full width of the home. This space is centered around a sculptural island that at first glance presents a knife edge towards the viewer while it funnels towards the rear producing an unfamiliar triangulated form. ... もっと見る

Noel Residence

This single-family home just north of downtown Toronto was conceived as a series of living boxes that produced programmatic, acoustic, and formal separation of space that allows for each room to have its own experience and spatial identity while also playing a part of the cohesive whole. The main floor has a series of living spaces each with a clear view to adjacent exterior spaces beyond providing localized vistas and ample natural light.  Doublespace Photography Doublespace Photography The upper floor is defined by two cubic masses with subtle hipped roofs that each have a formal ending with large skylights. The children’s bedroom wing fuses with the main circulation space and sees its corresponding skylight located... もっと見る

Everden

Everden is a single family residence, new build construction. The brief was to create a place for a growing family, that could support their desires for the home to be a place of refuge. The brief was to create a home that felt unique and personal to the homeowners, unapologetically contemporary, while still having cues to the traditional ideas of "house". What followed was a three story form, reading as stacked boxes, carrying the motif of "house" throughout the interior. Tranquil Abiding

After years of intimate involvement with their Buddhist community in upstate New York, our spiritually-minded clients decided to plant roots closer to their Glen Spey temple. Despite the travel-loving couple’s broad geographic search for a second home, they were eventually led back to Glen Spey, where they felt a pull to be near their place of spiritual practice. Brad Feinknopf The expansive site, on 115 wooded acres, was chosen for its proximity to the temple, a short stroll away on the adjacent lot. The siting of the home was driven by three distinct benchmarks: the temple, the sun, and a creek which runs through the middle of the property. Bringing the deeper purpose of the residence into focus, the home’s meditation sp... もっと見る

Residential House in Digomi

This multi-family housing project is located in the immediate vicinity of the Digomi floodplain. The urban environment in the area is under active development and lacks an established character. As the surrounding area lacks structured recreational areas, the main objective in locating the building on the site was to provide as much space as possible for an internal courtyard isolated from the main road and to make the path leading to the flats an interesting experience for the residents. The volume of the building is divided into 2 blocks, with the main living space stretched between 4 monumental walls.  They are connected by two-storey communal terraces located  with  one-floor interval. We believe that this intermediate,... もっと見る

Residential house in Didi Digomi

The project was developed between II and III micro districts of Didi Digomi in Tbilisi. For the development of the urban environment of modern Tbilisi, architectural intervention in this place is a challenge, because now this area is being actively developed, and the existing background is quite chaotic. In the peripheral zones, quite budgetary constructions are mainly carried out, and therefore much attention is not paid to the artistic-architectural appearance of the buildings, the quality of finishing, the ecological factor, etc. We want this project to be a precedent for raising the level of common construction and architectural standards in peripheral areas, which we think will be a healthy factor for the city and its society. Our go... もっと見る
