Known for creating some of the world's most beautiful luxury automobiles, Pininfarina has expanded its brand as an international design firm with the landmark Diagonal building in Fortaleza, Brazil. A collaboration with architectural firm Molegolar, the 53-storey Diagonal building is one of the tallest towers is Brazil and illustrates the remarkable power of biophilic design to create immersive living spaces that enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of its residents.
Blending with coastal surroundings, the project showcases curving exteriors clad with a living green façade that creates a rainforest-like oasis in the city. The lush base of the tower offers an urban oasis and serves as a shining example of the city's urban afforestation and regeneration efforts.
Pininfarina designed the custom lobby to be easily transformed into an elegant space, welcoming the surrounding community to events like art gallery shows. On the levels above, each four-bedroom unit includes three standard-sized rooms and one primary suite. All units are accessible from a private individual elevator lobby and include a terrace that extends from the spacious living room and is illuminated by an innovative lighting system, giving guests enhanced views of the ocean below.
The design firm note that connectivity to the natural environment not only promotes air purification, but also has a profound effect on residents’ well-being by reducing stress and providing a sense of tranquility. Floor to ceiling windows, large terraces, and abundant natural light further enhance resident mood and energy level while offering other health benefits.
