Curved walls

Close to two hundred years after being chartered by Congress, George Washington University forges on in its ambitious trek to graduate forward-thinking students aiming to be the leaders of tomorrow. Subscribing to the notion of sustainable design, the university's new addition features a seven-story open interior composed of concrete and bamboo panels - achieving an urban aesthetic with the added comfort of LEED platinum certification. For this campus gym, flexible metal fabric allowed designers to create a curved wall that reaches to the upper level, finishing as a balustrade for the railing system. The tensioned fabric defines the large area on the ground floor while keeping outside light flowing to the interior. もっと見る

A flowing, ribbon-like wall has been installed in the new Istanbul Airport that unites a suite of lounges, forming an intuitive route through space that transcends barriers of language and culture. Designed by Softroom for Turkish Airlines, the Flow Wall is over akilometre long, making it one of the longest parametric interior forms in the world. The transformation of this office building has to deal with the long, narrow shape of the plan that leads to an almost forced solution. Therefore, to avoid the hallway to be dominant, the project is based on curves, transparent walls, calibrated interruptions, transforming a simple passage in a space of discovery.
